The Puck - LED lighting for the rest of us

I've had a lot of fun this Spring.  We've picked up a handful of new lines and I'm the first one to get excited about the new stuff.  I want it for myself, I want you to want it.  There's a lot of great gear out there and LED lighting is the next big change in the way you'll do things.

You've probably heard about the proposed elimination of incandescent ligthbulbs for your home or office.  That expected change has already caused one manufacturer to get out of the business of making incandescent theatrical lamps (bulbs).  When there are no more lamps (bulbs) being produced, your fixtures and dimmers may become obsolete.

What will happen is anyone's guess at this point.  Maybe we'll see dimmable LED elements for theatrical fixtures, just like we see them for home use, but it doesn't look that way - at least not yet.

So far, it's looking like LED fixtures may become at least part of the answer.  They require no dimmers, no incandescent lamps, and most can change colors.  Imagine any color combination from one fixture - without having to get up on a ladder to change gel material.

I know; that sounds all well and good, but where should you start?

Blizzard Lighting just introduced The Puck 3.  It's an LED fixture that will give you hundreds of color combinations in a small package, that produces virtually no heat, and that doesn't require a dimmer pack.  Now, it does require control software like Mega Enlighten and a DMX interface - whether a computer or a physical control surface, but there's no longer any need for special power power distribution.  Each fixture requires just a few watts of power, so several of The Puck 3 can be operated from a single 20 amp circuit. In the Puck family, you'll also find The Puck (original) and The Puck RGBA (adds Amber LED elements for better flesh tones).

Take a look at the product videos on the individual product pages to get an idea of what these can do.  Any of The Puck fixtures make great up lights for effects or low-profile primary fixtures in the right environment. Pucks start at $129.99.  Puck RGBA is $169.99.  Puck 3 is $199.99
