Aviom -- To Each His Own

Accurate monitoring is important for live music. When the volume gets out of hand, audio clarity is compromised. The performance of the musicians suffers; the congregation suffers; the Message suffers.

The music many churches perform is like a rock band. Calvary Temple faced a problem in that it didn't have all the tools to mix like a rock band. Before getting the A-16 Personal Monitor Mixing System, if a musician couldn't hear, he'd just play louder. We call that audio inflation. The guy with the grayer hair on the back row calls that, "Just too darn loud!"

Now it sounds more like a band at Calvary than just a bunch of guys playing instruments. Better monitoring has also relieved tension between the band members. The overall morale of the band has increased.

Leading the band and the congregation is Associate and Music Pastor Vep Ellis. Pastor Vep sings and plays piano in the band. "My voice is stronger, and not hoarse anymore. I don't have to use excessive volume just to be heard above the band.

Since installing the Aviom Personal Monitor Mixing System, members of the congregation comment that everything sounds much better now.

The A-16 Personal Monitor Mixing System allows the performer to create a custom monitor mix tailored to his/her individual needs. Users can save and recall up to sixteen custom mixes saved as presets in their Personal Mixer. The stereo output from the Personal Monitor Mixing System can be used to drive floor wedge monitors, in-ear monitors, headphones, or spot monitors.

The A-16 Personal Monitor Mixing System consists of two components, the rack mountable A-16T Transmitter and the table top or mic stand mounted A-16 personal Mixer. The system can transmit sixteen channels of high quality 24bit audio over a single Category 5 (Cat-5) cable, the same cable you see being used in computer networks. There is no limit to the number of A-16 Personal Mixers that can be used in one system. Cable length between components in the system can be as long as 500 feet each.

If you have questions on how to implement an Aviom system in your setting call today. This is one of the best engineered solutions that we've seen in a long time. If you think that it's for you, it probably is. It's a whole lot less expensive than a monitor console, splitters, amplfiers, and speakers -- and, you won't have to find another volunteer to run it. Think about that.

Audio Technica 4000 & 5000 Series Wireless

I recently got a call from a client (who regularly gives me a hard time) who said, "Dave, I've got a problem." Those are the last words I ever want to hear from a client, especially after a big event or important service.

He continued, "How do I explain to my pastor that this new Audio Technica wireless microphone sounds better than the $5000.00 Sennheiser that I just bought? And, it doesn't 'p-pop' like the Sennheiser."

Quite frankly, I thought that he was teasing me, but he wasn't. He went on to say that the church had been looking for the very best wireless microphone for its pastor for almost 10 years and never quite found one that worked just right, until now. He even offered to trade me his $5000 unit for one of the 5000 Series Audio Technica units that costs $2599 -- straight across!

The system is literally as good as anything made, and well under $1500 per user. Granted, that's still a lot of money for most churches, but it's much less than the most expensive wireless units made.

I know what you're thinking. That's a lot of money, and since these systems feature a dual receiver, you'll have to spend a bunch to get a system.

4000 Series

For those whose taste is more expensive than the wallet can afford, the new 4000 series from Audio Technica features individual receivers and the same great audio quality without the Ethernet interface and software control capability of the 5000 series. The 4000 and 5000 series sound the same, have the same basic features, and they cost less!

So, if you want the best wireless available, you have two choices.

P.S. I have installed the new 4000 Series lapel system ($699.00) with the AT899 lapel microphone ($159.95) at my own church. My pastor just smiled as soon as he heard himself. Wouldn't you like to see your pastor smile?! The new Audio Technica 4000 and 5000 systems feature unmatched sound quality from the new leader in wireless performance.

Audio Technica AE5100

Inspiration Choir Microphone Shootout

When someone does a blindfold test in a public setting, you can't hide the truth and only one microphone can come out on top. The Audio Technica AE5100 elicited the most interest of the field over a highly expensive Neumann TLM103 microphone (List Price over $1000) and microphones from Shure, Crown, Octava, Sennheiser, Peavey, Earthworks, and others. Quite simply, it sounded better and it's a whole lot less expensive.

Audio Technica has a gem in its line that it promotes as an instrument microphone. Virtually unknown to the folks at Audio Technica (although we've been telling them for months) is that it's also a fabulous choir microphone -- the VERY BEST according to the audience at Inspiration.

The AE5100 is a large diaphragm microphone that will give your choir the warmth that a miniature choir mic just can't match. It's uniformity of polar pattern also makes it easy to work with in terms of managing feedback and getting a great sound.

Take a look at the picture of the microphone and specs below.

Again, this microphone bested the big boys and surprised the crowd (it even surprised the guys from Audio Technica). The AE5100 was the best of the bunch at Inspiration in Cincinnati this Spring. If you're trying to figure our how to make your choir sound its best, look no further.

Audio Technica AE5100................................ $249.95
